Julie Wohlrabe was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1957. She moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1975, where she met and married “her vicar” husband at Anchorage Lutheran Church in 1980. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Business/Marketing. She happily (mostly J) followed her Navy Chaplain husband around the world and while living in Japan began teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) and thoroughly enjoyed it. They always knew they wanted to return to the Midwest, and have lived in Wisconsin since 2012. As a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitefish Bay, she learned about the international ministry and the teaching needs at Luther Memorial Chapel. In 2015, she began as a volunteer ESL teacher on Tuesday mornings. The development and need for a full-time director of the program named iO (International Outreach) began in the summer of 2018. That September, she was asked to be the director and she accepted.
iO is a ministry of friendship, hospitality and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her position maintains oversight and promotion of the many facets of iO, including ESL classes; planned activities; the Children’s Program; the Exchange Room; Sunday Bible reading; Worldview Conversations class; informal social gatherings; Tuesday/Thursday Bible reading and much more. She continues to teach on Tuesday mornings.
Together with her husband John, they are blessed with three adult children and one grandson.
