UW–Milwaukee Students host Intelligent Design Conference!
On April 1st, 2008, over 180 attended an excellent presentation by Dr. Angus Menuge (Chair of the Philosophy at Concordia University Wisconsin and author of Agents Under Fire) and Dr. Paul Nelson (Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of Chicago and frequent lecturer). Late arrivals found standing room only in the Wisconsin Room of the UWM student union.

Dr. Menuge discussed the philosophical foundation of Darwinism and its effect on science. Dr. Nelson discussed how understanding where life begins or ends points more strongly to an Intelligent Designer. Both presenters began by noting wide scientific agreement that there is amazing design in the universe and in the smallest cells. Both presenters also identified the intense professional and academic hostility there is for those scientists who even express the possibility that a designer might be behind the profuse and profound design in nature. In that vein, both presenters also encouraged those attending to see the major motion picture “Expelled” to be released April 18th.

Students, professors and area residents took part in the Hors d’oeuvres provided and the question and answer time after each discussion. Scriptural brochures on Creation and the Christian faith were available and taken by many. On leaving attendees were reminded that God’s intelligence is wondrous and the source of countless good gifts in this life. They were also reminded that God’s undeserved love is even more wondrous and the source of eternal gifts of forgiveness and life in Christ Jesus. Invitations to the Divine Service and on-campus table talks and Bible studies were extended.

Events such as this one are one of the avenues Luther Memorial Chapel and University Student Center seeks to use in reaching out to the students on the UW Milwaukee campus. We are just six blocks from campus and desire to be a church home away from home for students from sister congregations to receive Word and Sacrament. Therefore we invite contact information for any UWM students you may know of. We also actively seek to reach out to all students with the Gospel through LSF outreach tables, table talks, and invitations to student activities. If you have any questions or are interested in supporting this campus work, please contact the church office at (414)332-5732 or the Vicar at This email address is being protected from spambots.
